"Slaughter on the highest scale," Lady Tiller agreed. "Farefax aren't used to winning. They would not know the mercy that we have learned to show to the captured peasant villages."
"So the pressure is on, now more than ever…" Harland murmured with a sigh. "I suppose that is how it ought to be. If we are not fighting with everything on the line, then there's no chance of us fighting to our best. What are your orders, Commander?"
"Gather the men," Vol said. "We'll hold here, until they dare and send their army forward to complete the capture."
It wasn't much of a plan. It was a turtle's kind of a defence. The hope of a counterattack. The likelihood that they'd be left with less than a dozen bricks by the time the Farefax enemy had finished seemed high. But Vol hoped to bet on their impatience. It was the only thing that he could bet on.
Across the way, the Farefax Commanders were feeling rather content, now that their plan was finally coming into fruition.
