It was indeed a certain trouble that Vol knew he would face. He'd been given access to the different Counts around the border, and the knights that served under them, but there was a limit to how long he could borrow those troops for. That was part of the reason that he saw it necessary to give even those borrowed troops gold rewards – they were men that would have much preferred to be back on their own lands, seeing them adequately defended. As far as they were concerned, being out with Vol, in the middle of enemy territory, was putting themselves in the wrong place.
"You would need your own lands defending, Lady Tiller," Vol said. "I would not be able to take the entirety of your army."
