Vol dragged him from his horse, down into the mud, where the rest of them had done their battle. Then, he hacked the man's head off with his own blade, and drove the sword in the mud beside him.
Whatever worth the Count might have had to others, the only thing he had of value now to Vol was his horse. When the rest of the men came sniffing, having fulfilled their own tasks, that was something that Vol made sure to take for himself.
Chapter 22 – The Known
Victory had left the Sea Serpents rich, which, it turned out, was something that they needed to be, given the number of men that they had lost. A single battle against another group of gold mercenaries, and their fighting strength had been halved, all the way down to fifty.
