Harland and Borne looked to Vol. Vol nodded to them, indicating for them to run up ahead. When he saw them get moving, he cautiously moved to join them as well. Beth and Swallow rejoined with Nolan, just in time for the first wave of arrows to hit. Gazz and Don took care of those. They withdrew the shields from their backs, and stood in front of the rest, absorbing the worst of them.
They couldn't stop what flew over the top, though. Thinking themselves to already be nearly out of range, Borne and Harland had already turned their backs. There was nothing to stop the arrow's flight, as it flew straight past Borne, dodging the meat of his thigh, and instead pinning itself through Harland's calf. With a cry of dismay, the man collapsed into the snow.
Borne stopped, rooted in place, unsure of what to do. He reached to help the man, even though he knew it would only slow them both, and they'd both end up dying.
