Chapter 17 – A Wrestle for Reward
"You're joking," Vol said. They'd worried it would be the case, and they'd made sure to get Blackwood to promise to give them a hearty recommendation, and still the magistrates had come up short. 250 points, for days of work, and then a battle that should have required five times their number following after it.
"It's that ship in the port," Harland said with iron certainty. "I told you we should have brought it back after we had our promotion confirmed. They're slighting us for that."
"…But they didn't try and take it off us," Vale said.
Indeed, nothing had been said as they'd brought their new vessel back to port. This time, they had only been watched. Their faces had been noted. They weren't even asked for their mercenary licences. It was as if the guardsmen had known who they were in advance.
