The problem arose in interpretation. Count Rockly's daughter was not a pretty girl. She was hefty, to put it mildly. Some had compared her appearance and her weight in the past to that of a pig. More still had said that her chances of marriage were about as good as her chance of getting hit by a meteor. When it was cattle given for her gift, the hefty daughter of Rockly had been suspicious, supposing that it was some insult disguised as a present, as had often been the case throughout her life.
