The charge, even at full sprint, from Ivorn's infantry, did not have the shattering effect that many charges otherwise did. They were greeted by the lowered spears that Maskem had commanded down, and attacking the hill as they were, the speed that they were able to muster, even moving as fast as they could, was minimal.
There was a brief few seconds when the line of spearmen was thrown back, and the two sides grappled for position, but then stability followed, and the Maskem men managed to hold their line, allowing for the blossoming of a melee.
The blood began to spill more fiercely then. The ground was not so moist with only a drizzle to be offered by recent rain – but it was made moist then, as rivers of blood spilled from spear wounds, and began to water the earth.
