After the battle with the bandits, the rest of their quest with Thornhand had proceeded quietly enough. No longer did the nobleman's anxiousness constantly get the better of them, as he pestered them for patrols. Instead, he remained quiet, and lavished them with gifts of food whenever he did talk.
The man quite clearly realized just how lucky he had been to escape the fate that had come from him. He kept muttering about how he didn't have enough to pay them properly, but Penelope gave him all her reassurances.
