There was violence in his tone and written in his voice. He was as stormy as Penelope had seen him since their arriving. She was quite sure that, if left to his own devices, he would have left to find them there and then – and she didn't doubt that he would. Just as he had sniffed out the truth of the matter before it had even come to light, she'd noticed the sharpness of Vol's animal instincts.
"It's true," Penelope said. "They have wronged us. And that matter will be settled. But we don't need to be hasty."
She settled a hand on his arm, in the hopes of calming him, but the look he gave her was sharp enough that it might have cut the skin. Her fingers quivered. If she hadn't spent the time around him that she had, she would have lost her courage then.
"Vol," she said seriously. "We've been granted an opportunity. A faster path, even than doing two quests in a day."
