"As foully as he puts it, I'm of the same opinion," Vale told Harland. "We have no reason to play nice with these men. They have stepped out of line, and they don't have any strength to leverage."
"But you would make enemies for no good reason…" Harland said.
"I have often made enemies," Vale told him. "I do not think it to be possible to exist with any degree of strength without making enemies. At least these will be enemies sensibly made, given how weak they are. They will trouble us none."
