Stepping over the General's corpse, he looked forward again.
The docks were finally in front of them, along with that lone Syndran ship. It wasn't a distance at all now, though the wooden walkways that led to it were packed full of men. The real problem was the King and the Earl who remained seated off in the distance, just beside the cliff, under their colourful palisade. If they moved, then it seemed likely the Sea Serpents really would be extinguished.
"Vagrin," Vol said, his voice hoarse. "Go up ahead. Find out what's wrong with that ship."
Even a fool could have told that the Syndran ship was a trap, but for all the options they had, it was still their best one. He dared not put all the hope he had in it, but there was still a little hope to be invested after all. It depended entirely on what nature of trap the Syndrans had chosen to spring.
