Even as he turned his best soldiers into monsters, he could not help but feel the bitterness of the arrangement. He'd become a monster himself, in skin alone, but it was hardly the same thing. It was a temporary affair, and the power it offered him was lesser. For them, however, that was how they would enter into their final moments.
It wasn't sentimentality that brought that emotion to the surface, he knew. It was greed. The possessions he'd never cared for in the past had been different. But his soldiers, those were possessions he valued, and with each one that General Varn and his men dared to take from him, Vol's anger grew.
As his anger grew, the ferocity of his blade did. His energy was limitless. Again and again he hacked, and he grew stronger, empowered by the System's leveling.
