The Elder lay on the ground in the sand as if to ignore Vol and the fate that he'd been forced into. He played at being dead. It was a sign that the man still held his own consciousness. The very fact made Vol's heart beat with excitement. It was such dangerous territory for research and experiment. He had to clutch his head to ward off the madness, and then he gave his order.
"Arise, Elder," he said, his voice filled with Command. He knew that the man would not be able to disobey.

The System announcement came at the same time as the Elder's own obeying. The System claimed to have given him rewards but Vol knew not what those rewards were, nor did it specify, and nor did he even think at this point that it mattered, for before his eyes, he was entirely focused on the abomination that he had brought into this world.
