Silverfish was never far from where the fires smoked. More than once did he urge his horse through a wall of flame, to confront an enemy that seemed invisible beyond it. He always seemed to go where no other man would sensibly wish himself to be. He selected the places that most men had fear of, and then he went straight towards them.
It was only through the flames that Vale and he finally separated their partnership. She saw him leap the wall of fire, and she'd hurried to follow, only to pause when she felt the flames' heat. She'd had her own experience with fire, making her way through the Second Boundary, and whilst it would be a stretch to say it had left her traumatized, it had still given her a respect for the flame. She knew just how long burns took to recover from and she wasn't eager to repeat it.
