"Intriguing, Vessel," Pandora cooed. "From you, of all people. You have slaughtered and enslaved innocents as if it meant nothing to you. And you place a single girl's heart on such a pedestal? Why bother?"
It was a valid question, but both Vol and Pandora knew by now that Penelope wasn't a single girl. She had strange qualities to her. Strange enough that the Fragment of Pandora herself had declared that her mistress must have had some involvement in Penelope's appearance. She was far too rare a creature, and far too usefully placed for it to be a coincidence. She had been exactly what Vol needed just when he needed it. Now, she was still the same thing.
