Though the men were in agreement that there was likely to be someone waiting for them at the border, ready to get in their way, they hadn't managed to decide on a counter plan for it. There was little enough to be done. For all they were operating on were vague feelings and assumptions. They couldn't form any concrete plans until they were actually able to evaluate the area itself.
And so it was, in the final stretch of the journey, as they saw the walled city of Bathgate rise up in the distance, the Sea Serpents began to slow their march by the slightest degree. Though it allowed for the cavalry behind them to gradually begin closing their distance, it was a necessary expense, if it meant it would grant them the time they needed to form a counter plan, when they finally found what it was that they needed to form a counter plan against.
