Vol's own large shield protected himself. He'd shrunk his hammer and replaced it with his axe. Though, even if he hadn't bothered, it seemed likely that the Ogre Knight would have protected him. With its armour, it marched forward ahead of their pack, with slow steps, and with a hand towards its face to protect its eyes.
The fatigue was evident in every stride that it took. It hadn't been allowed to rest as the men had. There was little to be done for its wounds either. It would not last much longer. Vol doubted it could even make it as far as true combat.
This was when Vol would have preferred to summon more Ogres, or even some Fire Sprites to carve open the way ahead, but he'd already felt that he'd hit his limit. He'd even tried it with some minor summons, and the System had warned him against it.
