Those thoughts were quickly ended, as a call from Earl Maddon began a series of changes amongst his men. Now Vol could see them individually enough to use his level System. Shield bearers were being sent to the front of the formation, and everyone else was brought back a step.
Now, when the fireballs landed, the Fire Sprite's power was caught on a shield. It sent men hurtling backwards, but it didn't kill them. It hardly even seemed to wound them. They soon picked themselves up off the ground, and were plodding forward again.
"Level 40…" Vol said, looking down the line of shield-bearing men. They were strong. As strong as his Sea Serpent men were now – and he'd worked hard for those numbers. He searched for other men amongst their ranks, eyeing for the Earl himself, but he could not yet find him. He suspected his position was closer to the back of their formation.
