"Oh, crap!" Penelope said, hurriedly working to make the magic disappear. She fumbled like a woman trying to find a fork in a drawer, but eventually, she managed to make it go back to the realm of non-existent. She let loose an intense sigh of relief as she did so. "Thank goodness…" she said, collapsing backwards, leaving it to Vol to keep her held up. "I did it, didn't I?" There came a triumphant smile with a demand written behind it.
"…Yeah, you did," Vol said. "Good work, I suppose."
He'd thought that she might bite at him for the lack of enthusiasm in his praise, but she merely nodded in satisfaction, and closed her eyes. "That was… incredibly hard," she said. "I feel like I could sleep forever."
"Rest, then," Vol said. "You've done enough for today, if you wish it. I want to see how much further I can get with the likes of this Fire Sprite. As I've said, there's still enough hours in the day for some progress to be made."
