"Come, stand by the fire," Vol said, grabbing her hand, and forcibly putting her where the flames could reach her. "These entities," he said. "Were they like what Francis sent against us?"
She seemed almost surprised that he was taking her seriously, and she pondered his question carefully, but there was uncertainty in her eyes as she gave her response. "I think so… but I'm not sure. I only know that they liked you not. I saw so many faces, Vol, all of them without life in our eyes. Faces important to us."
"Who?" Vol asked.
It seemed to be too cruel a question for the girl, for she shook her head, and the tears started to fall from her eyes. She gripped Vol's shoulder as he sat, and she fought with all her strength to steady herself, but it took her a while before she could force the words out. "I saw Vale… I saw Borne… Harland, Silverfish, Northy… Vol, I saw everyone. They were all dead."
"And I wasn't?" Vol said, frowning.
