Chapter 48 – Penelope's Prophecy
Vol kept his men training, and he gradually returned to more physical training himself, as his body tried to overcome the wounds that Ruddock had dealt him.
"They're broken…" Penelope had said helplessly, after she'd forced Vol to let her check on his injury one day. She hadn't noticed it when she'd first stitched his cuts, with all the blood, but now with a gentle hand, she confirmed it now.
"So they are," Vol said. "There's nothing to be done, just let them be."
It was a fact, one that even Penelope couldn't deny. She kept her quiet with a helpless desperateness. When it came to other people, she seemed ready to throw her very life down to help them, but when it came to her own progress, her emotions were confusing.
