"Conjuring fire is the most foundational spell, my Lady?" Vale said. "That seems curious."
Penelope shook her head. "It isn't considered a spell. It's just a manifestation of mana in a certain form. A spell has a purpose, and is controlled and refined… my father would have called what I'm doing no different to a mana-capable child throwing a tantrum."
"A harsh man," Vale said. "I think it to be a wonderful thing that you can do."
"Thank you very much, Vale," Penelope said, doing her best to smile for the woman, though it was easy to tell that Vale's compliment hadn't done much to dispel all the doubts that Penelope still had.
"Train, then," Vol told Penelope. "I want to see something more impressive. Your teachings will teach me – since you seem to be so much more interested in doing that than working on your own training."
