Reeds arose up around them. They trampled through those too. The screams were right next to them now, or so it seemed. It was only their streambed separating them from battle.
They had the opportunity to charge, but they needed another unpredictable element to give birth to the kind of explosion of advantage that Vol needed.
"Penelope," he murmured, his voice quiet. "You wouldn't happen to know any other magics, would you..?"
"I don't think there's time to explain that…" Penelope said back, flattening against the bank. She was terrified for her life, it was clear on her face, but for a girl of sheltered noble stock, she was doing well to bear it.
"Point taken," Vol said, in no position to argue. "Then, I want you to use your fire again."
"Vol… I can't hit people. Please don't make me do that," Penelope pleaded. "Even for you, I couldn't… It'd be an easier task if you asked me to kill myself."
