He'd sacrificed that ability to progress more consistently for something less natural. It seemed to give him the edge – at least, he was able to progress at a rate that had kept him up to speed with Nolan, despite his Boundary Break – but it wasn't all good news. After all, he had to make concessions, like with his Burden of Suffering, in order to progress at the same rate consistently.
"Who is that?" Penelope asked, appearing next to them.
"That's Nolan," Harland told her. They were getting increasingly used to her presence over the course of the days. "A friend of Vol's. He's a youth with a frightening mind. We've seen it in action more than once."
"Hm…" Penelope said, looking over at the camp. "How strange… He's like Vol."
"Like Vol?" Harland said. "How do you mean? The two are different in all ways, apart from strength, I'd say. Opposites, if anything, really."
