How quickly Nolan rushed to give up command wasn't just shocking to Vol, it also seemed to surprise Beth and Ink who hovered behind him like phantoms atop their horses.
"Nolan—" Beth began.
"Worry not," Nolan said. "I would feel confident putting the forces in Vol's hands. Besides, it doesn't mean that I would lose my men, merely that Vol shall dictate the course of our campaign."
"…Why?" Vol asked, carefully.
"Why indeed..?" Nolan said with a smile, seeming intent to leave it to mystery, before then deciding against it. "No. I shall be upfront with you. I believe your intuition to exceed my strategic sense. It is a thing that I have pondered – putting the two together. So, I would like to try it, if you are willing. To have your intuition decide the direction, whilst my strategy plots the course. Does that not seem a most cunning plan to you, mm?"
