"Why did you need to confirm that?"
"I do not know," the girl replied.
"Excellent," Vol said, stretching his shoulders. "I murdered twelve villagers last night. You were their slave. You saw me summon goblins in their place. You understand that knowledge means you cannot be allowed to live, do you not?"
"I know," the girl said, wearing a peaceful expression. The shakes that she'd had the previous evening were entirely gone.
"Don't look so happy about it," Vol murmured, though the girl didn't seem to be listening. Instead, she was pointing to a pile beside his bed.
"Those are the clothes that you told me to get," she said.
"Mm?" He looked over them. His second outfit. All of them were neatly folded and laid out. He knew he hadn't folded them like that. Even if he was wearing noble clothing, he wouldn't tend to it like a woman would. He usually treated his possessions with the utmost casualness.
