"I've been planning that for damn too long, Harland," Vol said more loudly and with more irritation than he'd intended. Over the course of the months, the men had noticed Blackbeard's continually cold treatment of Vol, despite his achievements, and they'd begun to push for him to challenge the man, just as Vol himself wanted to. He'd eventually confided in them that such a thing had been his aim all along. Only with the System's reassurance could he have made such a leap in trust. "But if I move against Blackbeard, those new recruits aren't going to stay with me. They hardly responded to me today."
"Is true," Borne said. "Men follow biggest elephant. Vol still only second."
"What the fuck's an elephant?" Asked Northy with a frown.
"A more public transfer, then…" Harland mused, nodding. "That seems complicated, but I understand your intent. We'd be wasting the raiding season if we risked letting the men get fractured."
