Before the charge even neared them, Vol already heard screams. On both flanks, men were falling, with arrows put through the centre of their helmets. The small shields that they hastily raised up once they realized there were archers seemed to have no effect at all, for before Vol's hammer could reach them, another man on each side was picked off by both Swallow and Beth's arrow, as they managed to find cracks in the armour, and put the men out.
Their momentum was considerably blunted by the falling corpses that they had to dodge out of the way of – or at least, it was blunted on the flanks. In the middle, it was still left to Vol. His eyes posed a question to Nolan, wondering if the youth would step up beside him. Nolan gave him a small smile, and motioned with his hand.
"It would seem to me, my friend, that you are far better suited to be a charge breaker than I," Nolan said, taking a step back.
