Chereads / ROYAL DARKNESS (MASKED) / Chapter 11 - CHAPTER ELEVEN

Chapter 11 - CHAPTER ELEVEN

What are you doing, woman?" King Herad asked, his voice filled with both curiosity and disdain.

The people murmured as they stared at Kira, their eyes reflecting fear and curiosity. Ignoring them, Kira stood her ground, well aware of the unease her presence caused. As a Vedan, she knew she was different, an outsider in the kingdom of Konica.

"I want to fight for this man," Kira replied calmly, her gaze unwavering.

King Reagan remained seated, his expression unreadable behind the mask as he observed the unfolding scene. He remained silent, allowing King Herad to take the lead.

"You know the beast could kill you," King Herad stated, a hint of amusement in his voice. "Is sacrificing your life for this criminal really worth it? I'm sure your death will displease your king over here," he added condescendingly.

"I'll fight the beast for the man's life." Kira insisted, determination shining in her eyes.

A smile slowly appeared on Herad's face, revealing his sinister intentions. He had wanted to get rid of Kira since she arrived in Konica. He despised her simply because she was half Vedan.

For a moment, Herad considered the possibility that Kira could be the girl his wife had given birth to, the child whose birth led to her untimely death. However, he quickly dismissed the thought because Kira was older than his missing daughter that he hates so much would have been.

"Very well then," King Herad declared, his voice echoing through the arena. "You may fight Dragur."

Kira nodded, her gaze shifting to the creature standing before her. The crowd held their breath in anticipation, unsure of what would happen next.

"But on one condition," Herad continued, a wicked glint in his eye. "You must fight blindfolded and without weapons."

Gasps filled the air, spreading among the spectators. General Roderick turned to Herad, disbelief and concern etched on his face. King Reagan remained remarkably calm and cold, displaying no emotion.

Murmurs once again filled the arena as the crowd expressed their doubts and skepticism. General Roderick's mind raced, believing it impossible for Kira to emerge victorious in such an unequal battle.

"Very well then," Kira said resolutely, her voice cutting through the air as she released her weapon, letting it fall to the ground.

Gasps escaped from the mouths of the onlookers, their eyes widening in disbelief at Kira's decision.

A self-satisfied smile crept across Herad's face, knowing that Kira had sealed her own fate. He relished the thought of her imminent demise.

"Bring her a blindfold," Herad commanded. A guard swiftly entered the arena and handed Kira a blindfold.

She tightly wrapped the blindfold around her eyes, shutting out the world and embracing the darkness that awaited her.

"Kill the Vedan!" a voice shouted from the crowd. The words hung in the air, igniting a chorus of hateful cheers, as the spectators rallied for the beast to end Kira's life.

Herad sank back onto his throne, satisfaction radiating from his countenance. He believed he had ensured her downfall and there was no escape from the impending doom.

"What is she trying to prove?" Roderick whispered to Cedrick, his voice filled with doubt and concern. They stood together, observing the unfolding fight from a closer vantage point. "That creature will kill her within seconds."

Cedrick, however, wore a sly smile as he glanced at Roderick. "Have faith," he replied cryptically, his words carrying an air of hidden knowledge.

The battlefield was shrouded in silence, broken only by the distant roars of the beast and the muffled sound of Kira's footsteps as she prepared to face her opponent. The tension in the air was obvious as the crowd held their breath, their eyes fixated on the blindfolded woman standing alone in the center.

"I understand your grand general is skilled, but Dragur is a fearsome beast," Roderick expressed his concern. "I fear for her life."

"If she dies, she dies as the warrior she is. There is no death more honorable for a Drakonia soldier," Cedrick replied firmly.

Roderick let out a sigh, his worry apparent in his eyes.

All eyes were fixed on the match, the atmosphere thick with anticipation.

The people of Konica, gathered in the crowd, harboured a fervent desire for Kira's death, there was nothing that brings them more pleasure than seeing a Vedan die even though Kira was just half Vedan and she had human blood flowing in her .

The man who Kira is fighting for stood at a corner, his wife by his side, silently praying for their helper's safety.

Kira took deep breaths, trying to center herself and adjust to the energy surrounding her.

She focused her senses, listening closely to pick up on the subtle details of her surroundings..

Gradually, she began to perceive what she needed to hear-the soft rhythm of Dragur's breathing, the pounding of his heart, the faint sound of chains rattling around his neck.

Thoughts raced through Kira's mind as she contemplated strategies to kill Dragur, to conquer the seemingly insurmountable challenge before her.

King Herad sat upon his throne, a smile playing upon his lips, confident in his sinister plan. "Another Vedan, cleared from the world" he said to himself.

"Let the fight begin!" someone announced, their voice slicing through the tense silence.

Summoning every ounce of courage and resilience within her, Kira took a single step forward, waiting for Dragur to attack.

With a thunderous roar, Dragur lifted his axe and charged toward her, the sound nearly deafening. She listened intently, hearing his heavy footsteps rapidly approaching.

Swinging his axe high in the air, he aimed to cleave her in two. Yet, with remarkable agility, she swiftly dodged to the side, causing the axe to crash onto the ground instead.

Her speed was extraordinary, almost superhuman. Gasps and murmurs filled the air as the spectators witnessed her astonishing movements.

King Herad's once delighted expression transformed into one of focused attention as he sat up straight on his throne.

Growing increasingly furious, the beast raised his axe once again, determined to strike her down. However, she evaded his attack with lightning speed, sidestepping his blow effortlessly.

"What is happening? How is she capable of such feats?" King Herad demanded, perplexed by the spectacle unfolding before him.

Roderick's face displayed sheer shock, while Cedrick wore a satisfied smile, his confidence affirmed.

The beast made one final attempt to slice Kira in half, but this time, she seized the opportunity. Grasping his axe firmly, she used her immense strength, equivalent to that of a hundred men, to pull him down. In a blink of an eye, she seized his throat, digging her nails into it, and ripped it out, blood splattering across her face in a gruesome display.

Gasps filled the air as everyone, including King Herad, rose to their feet in astonishment. They couldn't believe their eyes, witnessing the incredible feat that had just unfolded before them.

Slowly, Kira removed her blindfold, her gaze fixed on her surroundings. She stared at the beast, still standing tall but with blood spurting from its throat. Gradually, the mighty creature sank to its knees and then collapsed onto the ground, leaving the crowd gasping once again.

Never before had anyone managed to defeat Dragur, let alone do so with such ease. The spectators were left in awe, struggling to comprehend what they had just witnessed.

Kira tossed aside the entrails of Dragur that she held in her hands and spoke, her voice resolute, "You are finally free. Rest well."

"How did she...?" Roderick's voice trailed off, his mind filled with bewilderment.

"She is our grand general for a reason," Cedrick replied with admiration. "Only a few possess the ability to challenge her in battle. She is truly a force to be reckoned with."

Roderick let out a deep sigh, his gaze fixed upon Kira. "Who could have known that the child I abandoned years ago would grow into such a remarkable woman?" he pondered in his mind.

Despite his past actions driven by fear, he couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and happiness, witnessing the extraordinary person his daughter had become.

I suppose he is now a free man," Kira remarked, referring to the man who was originally supposed to face the beast.

"No, no!" King Herad retorted. "That was an unfair fight. You employed your wicked magic, you Vedan!"

"All my powers com from my eyes," Kira calmly responded. "Surely you were aware of this, hence why you insisted I fight blindfolded."

"There's no way you could have slain him without resorting to magic," King Herad insisted. "Execute the man and his wife regardless. Their savior has cheated."

"What?!" General Cedrick exclaimed, taken aback by the sudden turn of events.

Without warning, a guard seized the struggling man and his wife, tightening their grip.

"Release us! She emerged victorious!" the man cried out desperately.

In that moment, Reagan, who had silently observed the unfolding events, extended his hand and swiftly grasped Herad by the throat.

A collective gasp swept through the crowd as fear gripped them, cowering in the presence of their enraged king. The entire place was suddenly quiet.

Rising to his feet, towering over Herad, Reagan maintained his grip, lifting him by the throat. His voice resounded with authority as he spoke, "She has triumphed. Honor your word."

King Herad's guard including general Cedrick were about to attack Reagan but the king who was still being strangled stretched out his hands, signifying stop and they immediately complied as they stepped back

Herad, his face turning purple from the tightening grip, managed to utter, "Fo... for...give... me... I... will..."

Releasing his hold, Reagan let Herad collapse to the ground, struggling to catch his breath.

"Release them," Herad wheezed, his voice filled with desperation.

The guards promptly released the man and his wife, their freedom restored.

Reagan shifted his gaze towards Kira, who gracefully bowed, a soft smile adorning her face. She felt a deep gratitude for her king's intervention, recognizing the protection he had extended to her and the innocent couple caught in this treacherous web of deception.
