Chapter 36 - The Pitiful

Day 2

For as winter came with its hazards as snowy storms, from the depths of the mountain the earth roared, as calm water quaked and shook, from with darkened eyes it once slept… but as the madding altars were built, fresh blood from up on high in metal cages, seeped into the icy rituals. With purple flames for candles the witches of old and new gave their prayers… For their god was almost here… for their god could now answer their prayers! For their god was so close in drinking the blood collected!

For as a maddening troll child stood by hanging bodies of young and old, onto old ritual stones, she smiled at the sight of old goblin nests as they festered in pitch dark waters. But while the waters bubbled with many faces, the troll child said without turning back:

[Adam… the first Adam… you are to head to the nearest city… there the people will pass you by… they will not help you but ignore you… there you are to wait until the one who will help you shows himself… then you will know what is to come...]

Hearing his orders, Adam bowed respectively and disappeared into the shadows leaving behind Baldwin to protect the old one messenger. But while he sat there on his knees the madden princess turned to face him to say:

[You… you are to head to the city of dwarfs by the famous Ander family! There you are to steal back the tablets of the old ones that are hidden away in the city depths! You are to ignore 'them'... you do know whom I'm talking about… yes?]

Baldwin bows in understanding

[Good, then off you go! For once you return will be ready to face the Ander family…] said the princess

As Baldwin leaves the hidden cave by the coast, Princess hears a disembodied voice yell into her mind:

[Huurry… my hunger grows…. I'm tired of waiting… it's been far too long…]

While holding her hands on her throbbing head, the princess response:

[it won't be much longer… Please just be patient for just a little season. It's all coming together… I promise you…]

As the voice calms into nothing, the princess lowered her hands only to hear behind her:

[messenger! Is it time yet] asked one of the witches

While enthralled by the ecstasy the old one had giving her when he spoke, the princess quickly turned around with blood oozing down every orifice on her face with a smile to say:

[I SAID NOT YET]

Meanwhile back in the city of Alemor

The people sat quietly in their empty mood, for they were depressed that even after such a victory over the goblins, they still didn't know peace. For now, they must watch the snow collect itself onto their once busy streets, their once lovely yards… but while their dogs ran rampant on the streets unchecked, the cats and the rats played their game of tag. The mayor stood by in his grace, while dressed in his ties and slick shoes by a wide glass window that overlooked the small town.

But as the midnight snow fell with the tune to the clicking of his clock, the man watched with his hands behind his back. As the time slowly drifted to the morning, but while the time drifted quietly the man's mind was racing on what to do… for as many thoughts interceded with one another, the man was running out of time! For time was his biggest enemy!

But while the mayor was lost in his thoughts, there came a knock on his very expensive pink Ivory door.

[Sir… there are people outside demanding an explanation… There are rumors spreading… saying that you're losing control…] said the mayor assistant

[look… just tell those fools that it's all coming together! Trust me the money we are offering is more than enough to hire grade A mercenaries! Just tell them to bear with the lock downs for a little bit longer…] replied the mayor

[I understand sir... But I think it would be better if you… came out yourself to calm the people down…] replied the assistant

With the mayor in agreement, the man stood at the podium with a clicking clock in his pocket, all while the white snow continued to fall in the back, for the cameras zoomed in their lenses to capture the man.

[To you people of our fine town… to our great dream of a lavishing thriving city… I swear to you now that the problem we face… is but a former issue as of now! For I have hired a grade A mercenary group to come down here to solve our problem… I know what many of you are thinking about right now… and yes you are right… The hiring of a team such as this, will cost us greatly… and I'm sad to say that this is true… that the money that we hoarded for the wall… will have to go to them… as well as many of our empty properties!]

[crowd gasp in shock]

[I know… I know… many of you are shocked or even angry that we will have to give up so much… But I will not lie to you! Not to you that have already lost so much… Not to you who have given me the right to lead! I know that in these dire times we just keep sacrificing… we just keep losing… but I assure you now, that after this day we will win! We will no longer need to keep sacrificing! We will finally have our city back!]

[I'm fully aware that many of you are tired, hell even some of you may even wish to just give up and leave as we speak… but we all know that there is nowhere else to go... The dwarven cities are swamped with refugees from across the lands and we already know that Bredale has already locked their gates… and while winter is as harsh as she is beautiful, locking us in… there is nowhere else…]

[we either stand and fight for what is left of our home or watch it sink away by icy snow… or worse… burned down by unimaginable horrors that lay just outside our broken walls… So, I ask you now, men and women of our great town… will you stand and fight with me or will you revolt and, in your anger, lose everything! So, choose now! Fight! Hide! Or flight! Those are your choices, nothing less and nothing more! But I for one choose to fight! For I have yet to give up on my beloved town! On my dream… on our dream… on our dream of a city that rivals even that of the great Ander family!]

Through hundreds of applauding, the mayor stood up right with a smile as he financially bankrupts the city… but what was money to a doom city… what was money to a people who would soon die… whom would be left to question money that suddenly disappeared… whom would be left to question the motives of a blackened heart mayor… No one! And that is exactly what the mayor thought as he smiled and waved at a city of death! A city he already surrendered to its fate…

But while the mayor smiled and waved, as his clock struck the midnight hour! Breder issued his orders:

{My dear children… my dear sons and daughters… every day we grow... Everyday our family grows… Although it is a beautiful thing, we are still far from what we can be… just now I have received word that Collins and Blacky have found an untold… and unfathomable world just beneath our feet… one in which we are not ready for… but one we will be!}

{But for now, my children… we wait… we grow… and then we conquer! For the world has yet to know our fear and our might! They still believed their old revivals to be of importance… HA fools! Continue to fight each other… continue to make your stupid plans... You think I can't see them… I can't hear them… sure bring your strong mighty warriors! You think they will save your city... Your home… HA well… You are right in a way! For we were not interested in your lands or buildings made of stone! We only need you to be our cattle! We will leave your city but a husk of an empty well!}

{My darling children… though it pains me to watch you die… to perish under the foot of man… I must order you to go... For it is our purpose… your purpose… for you were made for this very reason to go and sever your king and queen! To bring victory to your nest and to watch her grow into a mighty fortress of brothers and sisters! But… What saddens me more is the fact that as we grow… we inch closer to that time… for as I watch the time tick away, I know that in my heart… this won't be forever… it won't last but a single moment… a single moment that will define everything I ever wanted… that you ever wanted…}

{so, go my children! Go and bring every living thing around in this god forsaken forest that walks it or crawls its, be it the mammal or the bug! If it breathes, bring it here! For the nest is ready! The eggs are set! We are close to welcoming a new queen!}

As Breder stood amongst the screeching cheers of his children as they hurry out into the forest beyond, he turned to Blacky and Collins and said:

{be ready… for as our numbers grow, the humans will set their best they have at you… you have my permission to express your own judgment out there in the mix of battle and conquest! Take those who are willing to follow you into hell depths and back… For the mission you are to breach, will be impossible or even suicidal!}

[For I leave you two with the task of Aelmor destruction! But remember you are to bring back as many cattle as you can! You must still meet your quota every day until you are ready!]

But while Berder watch the growing back of his two sons, the cat tribe in the mountain had their own meeting

[mam… Do you really think this much is necessary? Do you really think that Breder guy will turn on us?] said an assistant

[Think? Ha! I don't think I know he will! He even said it himself as much! He'll probably just sit and wait till he is done removing the humans and other creatures he finds easy prey… until the time that he is confident enough to strike at us next! After all, a star monster will always be a star monster!] replied the leader

[then why wait? Can't we just kill him now and be done with it?] question the assistant

[No! He may still be useful... After all, what better way to fight off a star monster than with another star monster… even more so now that we know the seal is weakening by the day… after all this time… that old one still has followers!] replied the leader

[how? I thought we killed them all back…] replied the assistant

[I Know but how else can you explain the seal's rapid decline! Someone or something is out there assisting in that 'things' growth… At this rate the secret city will be forced to make a move and when they do, we all will suffer greatly!] said the leader with great concern

[should… wake him then…] whispered the assistant

[No! Not yet… things haven't gone that bad yet… if we wake him then…]
