Chapter 7 - Good Beating (Part 3)

Riley had read about Medibells in his book the previous day, and he didn't expect to see a live one so soon. Medibells had no gender differences, belonged to the Psychic-type, and were relatively rare Spirit Beasts.

In fact, Psychic-type Spirit Beasts like Medibells were quite rare. There were only a few available at the Spirit Beast Breeding Base each year, and they started at a hefty price of a million League Coins. Most ordinary families couldn't afford them.

This one also seemed to belong to a wealthy owner.

Riley quickly labeled the short-haired female researcher with a white lab coat in his mind.

She was busy typing on her computer and appeared preoccupied. She wasn't surprised when Femedic and Riley entered, suggesting that she had received advance notice of Riley's arrival.

"Please have a seat over there," she gestured to an ordinary sofa nearby.

Riley took a seat at the designated spot. It was just a regular sofa with nothing special about it.

"Medibell," the short-haired female researcher called her partner without looking up.

"Medibell."

Suddenly, Medibell emitted a blue light. Before Riley could comprehend what it was doing, a silver helmet with numerous connecting wires floated from a distance of over ten meters and settled onto his head.

Riley's eyes sparkled at this sight.

This ability was incredibly convenient; it was like every azy person's dream of!

"Don't move," the short-haired female researcher still didn't lift her head, but Riley knew she was addressing him.

Despite the silver helmet on his head, it didn't obstruct Riley's view. He watched as the short-haired researcher furrowed her brows while observing the data and images transmitted by the device.

Riley instantly tensed up.

Could there be a problem?

The short-haired female researcher had a stern expression on her face, and when she was emotionless, she resembled the school's headmistress, which made Riley's heart race even more given to his current situation and what he was doing.

"Did you awakened independently?" the short-haired female researcher suddenly asked.

"Yes, ma'am. Is there something wrong?" Riley nervously inquired.

"No, don't be nervous," the short-haired female researcher, noticing the boy's unease, managed to form a somewhat unnatural smile to reassure him.

It was strangely eerie...

This only made Riley even more nervous.

"In our city, there are currently only six awakened independently children this year, including you. Your grades must be excellent, right?" the short-haired female researcher asked.

Being a top student didn't necessarily mean one could awakened independently, but those who successfully awakened independently were often top students.

Riley: "..."

Why did she bring up grades? You could say he was smart or talented, but how did this relate to grades?

However, Riley understood that she was trying to ease his nervousness with small talk, but this small talk felt forced...

"I'm basically third in the class," Riley said calmly.

"Being third in the entire school is still impressive. Many of the top two students can't awakened independently," the short-haired female researcher said, her smile though stiff, her tone gentle.

"In this recent mock exam, I ranked first," Riley added without any nerves now.

"After awakening, the brain domain develops by about 2%. Most awakened independently students, like you, are around 5%. Rapid improvement is normal," the short-haired female researcher explained to Riley.

Riley: "..."
