Edna's Point of View
"So, when would you be resigning", Bria asked me out of the blue. We were both at the café for our morning shift serving customers; let's not forget many people don't come here. I told her everything that was going on in my life because she is my best friend. She has supported me throughout my trying moments. Even though I know she can help me with the payment seeing that her family is rich I still refuse her help. Please don't ask why she's here if she's rich. She's running from family drama.
"Whenever any of my interviews results in a job, am not about to lose both ways by resigning now", I said as a matter of fact.
"Grazie", she says to our last customer in the café this morning who just made payments at the counter and turned to me, "Amica, let me help you, you are wasting a lot of time. What if this guy hurts you…."
"No. No. There's no way I'm taking money from you," I interrupted her attempt to sway me. I mean I know this man whom my father took loans from is on our necks, especially my parents but I want to earn this. Everyone is already looking down on us in the Pack. If you're still guessing, let me help you. We are members of the Raging Cloud Pack with the most ruthless Alpha reigning over us.
"If you won't let me help you with the payment then let me help you with finding a better job, please".
"No. To do that, you would have to leave this café, so no thank you" I refused her help again to get me a job not because I'm proud but because I still care about her. Her father claims that he would only help if she decides to stop working in the café and take up a job in one of his shareholding companies which of course she doesn't want to do, but she will do that for me. So it would be too cruel for me to sacrifice her happiness for mine.
"Amica…" Bria started before we heard my phone ring. I sighed tiredly the moment I saw the number on my screen. He would never give me a break, would he?
"Sir…"
"When am I receiving my money?" the voice from the other side asked.
"Sir, soon, very soon" I replied trying to be calm while I felt agitated.
"Do not taste my patience, mi fa incazzare" the voice replied angrily.
"Sir I promise, I will pay you before…."
"Young lady, hope you're not taking me for granted because you would regret it, that I promise you", the voice over the phone interrupted.
"Sir I will…. Hello", as usual, he cut the call on me. Sighing, I turned to find Bria burning her eyes into me with that frustrating look.
"Amica let me help, please. Just this once"
"Don't do this Bria, I'm already feeling frustrated", I replied trying to hide how devastated I feel at the moment.
"Then let me help reduce your frustration, please, please", she said repeatedly screaming 'please' in my ear.
"Bria!!!"
"You are calling me by my name again, I will pretend I didn't hear that", Here she goes complaining that I called her name instead of Amica which is just us calling ourselves friends so that everyone could know.
"Bria you know you are my migliori amica and that's forever and would never change", I said trying to reassure her that she's my best friend.
"I know that and you should let me help you at least for that one reason", she says going back to that topic like we never left it. She never gives up, does she?
"You are not letting me off on this one, are you?"
"Reassuring me that I'm your best friend means nothing if I don't act like one"
"Well, I need my best friend to have my back and that means supporting all my decision even if they seem stupid to her"
"So you know your decisions are…" she started but was cut off again by my phone ringing. She looks angrily at my phone and picks it up. I feel sorry for that man right now. "She said she would…." She started but paused and handed the phone over to me. I took the phone with a confused look on my face.
"Hello", I answered calmly but scared of what might come next.
"Am I speaking with Ms. Edna Fabio now?" a feminine voice from the other end asked.
"Yes, it's Edna speaking"
"Congrats, you just got a job as a cleaner at Alvinish Fashion Company to pay off the loan we offered to give you seeing that your current job cannot be a means to paying it off", I was overwhelmed when I heard this. I just wanted to scream, I'm trying so hard to compose myself.
"Thank you very much", I replied in-between smiles.
"And one more thing, it would be nice to be sure of whom you're answering to before coming off rude. Have a nice day". She says before the line goes off.
"Who was that on the phone you look so happy and excited?"
"What did she say to you on the phone?" I switched up on her because I need to understand why she handed the phone over like she heard a ghost talk.
"Well, I was ranting out words when she said 'Can you hand the phone over to Ms. Edna immediately?' so I did. Why? What happened?" she replied looking a bit confused but I don't think I'm buying that look.
"She doesn't like how you spoke to her"
"Well, she was bossy"
"You were rude, what did you expect?"
"Oh please spare me that. Why did she call anyways? She even sounded professional 'Ms. Edna'" she said nonchalantly while scuffing after mimicking how the lady over the phone sounded when she said 'Ms. Edna' which caused me to laugh. "Seriously, why did she call", she never gives up.
