Chapter 16 - Temple Trials

'This monument is dedicated to the souls lost in the calamity' - Erected by Princess Zelda - Near the ruins of Hyrule city, Leonard found a monument erected by Princess Zelda. In front of the monument quietly lies a 'Silent Princess', a variety of flower that Zelda loved, according to the two guards nearby.

Leonard, having made up his mind on the small island and found his direction, returned to the ground and headed towards the royal city. He passed the monument and arrived at the ruins of the central square. The blue halo above the next temple was clearly visible.

Leonard ignored the two guards studying the temple from the outside and directly entered the Quanoni Xiwi Temple. This place taught some rare combat skills, and as soon as he entered, the divine voice echoed in the spacious hall:

"This place is a temple for purifying ancient evil. Visitors to the temple, heed our teachings! Use a side jump to dodge the enemy's attack and counter-attack at the right moment." This required Leonard to jump in the opposite direction of the enemy's attack and counter-attack opportunistically. Leonard's melee skills were very weak in the past; he only knew how to persistently hack and thrust. This time, he practiced for a long time with the training golem in the center of the hall, finally making up for his shortcomings and succeeding once.

"Use a backflip to dodge the enemy's attack and counter-attack at the right moment." The second action was easier, it was just a backward jump. With the foundation Leonard built before, he succeeded after two or three tries.

"If you raise your shield in time with the enemy's attack, you can deflect the enemy's assault." The third action was undoubtedly the most difficult. Leonard was always holding up his shield, repeatedly missing opportunities. The training golem's slashes were always the same, but Leonard just couldn't react in time. After a while, Leonard was cut down to 1 heart of health, and his shield was also broken several times. As he was blocking the attacks, he thought to himself, to make a good deflect, the timing was the most important thing. There was no way around it, he would have to try a few more times. Eventually, Leonard's wooden shield flashed brightly, and at the moment the opponent's attack was about to hit him, he deflected the golem's short sword, causing the golem to stiffen greatly, and thus succeeded.

"You can use a charge attack after charging. Use this attack against the enemy!" The fourth task was the simplest. Leonard dispatched the training golem with one charge attack.

"The person who has learned all the skills! You are granted permission to enter the deepest part." Is that it? It seems a bit too simple. Leonard just got a taste for battle and was eager to try more, but he didn't expect the temple's training content to be so thin.

"To the one who visited this temple to cleanse and purify the ancient evil..." After a round of divine words, Leonard received a light of blessing. He now has two.

Coming out of the temple, the sky was already bright. Leonard looked at the Puyar tablet, it was already 5:50 in the morning, it seemed that the passage of time in the temple was a bit different from the outside world.

Not far away stood a sleazy investigator who was talking to himself: "Huh? Strange? Was there a hole just now? When did it appear? Oh, sorry... um, do you need anything? This place is very close to the deep cave and is very dangerous! Even this temple might be full of dangers." "A deep cave?"

"The Abyss refers to those profound caves that appeared all over the world after the changes of heaven and earth. For example, there are some under the nearby Hyrule Castle and south of the surveillance fortress. I've heard that several investigators who went to investigate the Abyss had health issues, so I suggest you not to get too close. Really, why do I have to investigate the Abyss...why couldn't it be temples..."

"Temples?" Leonard, who had just come from the Chononiw Shrine, became interested when temples were mentioned. If someone praised how powerful the temples were, he would be very pleased.

"What? Isn't it right before your eyes? When this temple appeared, it caused quite a stir! The headlines in the newspapers were all 'Mysterious Temples Appear Overnight Around the World'. However, people only know that these temples are from the mythological era. As for whether they fell from the sky or sprouted from the ground, no one knows..."

Hmm, it's entirely possible they fell from the sky. In good weather, I have personally seen parts of floating islands descending from the sky and crashing onto the prairie, Leonard thought to himself.

"Stepping back, what exactly is this thing... But well, it's not only the temples, but also the Abyss. People still know almost nothing about these things that appeared after the changes of heaven and earth. It would be bad if they are dangerous. We must investigate them quickly. All members of the search team are working hard at Hyrule Castle, and I must also strive to investigate. I can't lose to them!" Investigator Miru may look shady, but he has his own pride.

Leaving him, Leonard continued towards the royal city. Passing the ruins of the central plaza, Leonard found a memo on a table by the side of the road: Under the command of the leader of the surveillance fortress, Lady Puria, we, the hunting party, searched below the floating Hyrule Castle for traces of Princess Zelda. The nearby confirmed presence of a barrier is worth noting. Prepare thoroughly before setting out. Captain Hosta.

This captain seems meticulous. I must meet him during this trip. There's a long slope at the front gate, with a few sparse green grasses growing on both sides. A bearded guard stands on it, holding a rusty halberd. His name is Benny, and when he saw Leonard passing by, he respectfully said, "Captain Hosta may not know that you, Sir Link, have returned. There's a gate tower along the slope behind the gate, and Captain Hosta is up there. Please hurry and contact him! If he sees Sir Link in person, he will definitely be surprised!"

Leonard didn't dare to delay and walked up the slope. There was a rather strong crimson miasma in the air.

The morning sunlight shone on the avenue in front of the iron gate, casting only sparse, mottled shadows. The flags on both sides stood listlessly, as if stubbornly demonstrating the last glory of the dynasty. Looking at the increasingly heavy red breath in the sky, Leonard frowned deeply. Let's go! Today is the seventh day, and if I can't go back, I will forget all the review for my first year of high school...

Leonard came to the big iron gate. The sunlight shone down, and the metal reflected a yellow glow. Huh? Why can't I push it, and there's no one to open the door? Leonard was bewildered. What on earth are the people inside doing? They don't even open the door, how am I supposed to go in and find someone? This is ridiculous.

After lingering for a while, Leonard saw some vines next to the iron gate. Maybe he could climb up, so he decided to give it a try. He looked around and saw that below was a cliff and a river. Obviously, there was no road.

Following the branches and vines, Leonard managed to climb to the top of the city gate. This place was greatly damaged by the miasma, but he could still look back at the central square and the ruins of the city. The sunlight vanished in an instant, and the sky was covered with dark clouds. Anyone could tell that a heavy rain was coming.

There were no stairs to get down from the inside of the gate. Leonard looked and thought that at this height, falling down would definitely lead to death. So, he found a rough spot and slowly climbed down.

"Boom! Rumble!" The heavy rain arrived on time. When Leonard was hanging from the eaves, the raindrops pattered on his body, and it was somewhat painful. He almost slipped and fell several times, but fortunately, he always landed safely in the end.

Leonard picked a bright red Hyrule mushroom by the roadside to replenish some strength. He calmed himself down and continued to move forward.

This damn weather, who did it learn from? Leonard kept going up, but the rain got heavier, and the sky became so dark it looked like nightfall.

After a few steps, he saw a guard standing at the entrance of a building. Leonard was overjoyed and wanted to go in to avoid the rain, but the man said, "No matter how many times you come, I won't let you pass. Otherwise, I'll be scolded by Captain Hosta."

This man named Shakes, has he been infected with the miasma? Is this man pigheaded, giving no face to the great hero Link at all?
