Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Carl strode across the deserted street, glancing back every few paces. Suddenly, his gaze was drawn to what appeared to be a long wooden box, but it was a coffin. What's inside? He said to himself. His heartbeats were as quick as a flash of light across a dark room. He stared at it for a decade, his hands trembling and his noodle legs shaky. He looked around, but no one was there. The field is blank.

He stood over it and ripped back the box. He staggered back due to a sickeningly pleasant odour. Sightless eyes returned his look. He covered his lips with his palm, suppressing a scream.

"You're a killer!" Behind his back, a strange voice resonated. He froze, his eyes drooped, and he tried to move but his feet refused to move. He tried to yell, but nothing came out.

"I'm not a killer," Carl responded, his lips shaking. "In my entire life, I have never killed anything."

"Stop talking! You moron." Said the man as he stretched his hand in the air and landed it on Carl's cheek.

Carl shook back and forth like a drunk and collapsed on his knees, bursting into new tears."I didn't kill him." He counted off each heartbeat.

Following that, the officer produced a chain and wrapped it around Carl's hands.

Carl inhaled an unpleasant stink of the unpolished toilet later that morning. The ground's chill hit his half-naked body. When he opened his eyes, he was in a small room that resembled a cell.

He jumped to his feet after someone poured a bucket of water on him. "I didn't kill him." That was the first thing that came out of his mouth.

"Stop talking! You cretin." Behind Carl, a strange voice echoed. When he saw four police officers around him, his heart began to race and his blood ran cold in his veins.

"Listen," Inspector Aaron instructed. "I'm going to ask you some questions, and I want you to tell me the truth." He sat on a chair inside the inquiry room, chewing on the end of his pen. "Tell me how you murdered him. Has someone hired you?"

"No, sir," Carl replied. He took a deep breath in and out, attempting to calm himself. "I'm not guilty. In addition, I've never killed anything in my life."

"You're a genuine liar." Aaron, the inspector, stated. "What drew you out there at that hour when the rest of the world was sleeping?"

"How many times do you want me to say it again?" I'm not guilty. I said it, and I have no idea what it means." Carl stated.

"Hey, officer!" Inspector Aaron yelled. "Work with him until he tells you the truth."

The officer began to relentlessly beat Carl. Despite his noises, he didn't care or pity him. He screamed like thunder after taking a strike to the stomach. The pain he felt deep within flowed like water rushing down the mountain through the fissures of his heart. Carl covered his mouth with his palm as vomit poured out and he collapsed, gasping.
