Chapter 22 - A Vow of Retribution

The sun hung high in the sky as Andromeda, stood on the training grounds, ready to start her training to control her power. Her mentor and guide for the day was none other than her mother, Duchess Anastasia.

Anastasia, a seasoned warrior in her own right, knew the importance of building a strong foundation. She decided to commence her daughter's training with a fundamental aspect—stamina.

"Let's start, Andromeda," the Duchess declared in a tone that brooked no argument. "We'll begin by building your stamina. Elemental mastery requires not only strength of the mind but endurance of the body."

Andromeda nodded, eager to prove herself to her mother. She started running laps around the training grounds, her small feet pounding against the earth. However, despite her superhuman strength, her stamina lagged behind.

By the second lap, she was panting, chest heaving for breath. Anastasia watched closely, her eyes assessing her daughter's physical state.

"Hold, Andromeda," she called out. "You're doing well, but your breathing is erratic. Control your breath; it's the key to unlocking your inner power."

Andromeda slowed to a halt and took deep, measured breaths, mimicking the meditation techniques she had learned. Her mother's teachings had not been limited to the regal and scholarly; she had also instilled the importance of physical and mental discipline.

Anastasia nodded in approval. "Good. Now, continue with your laps, but this time, maintain control over your breath. Your body and your elements should move in harmony."

With renewed determination, Andromeda resumed her laps, this time focusing on synchronizing her breath with her movements. As she ran, she felt a newfound connection with the elements around her, as if they, too, were guiding her.

The Duchess watched her daughter's progress with pride, knowing that this was just the beginning of a long and challenging journey. Andromeda had much to learn, but she possessed the potential to become a formidable elemental master, a fact that Anastasia was keenly aware of.

As Andromeda continued her training, her frustration grew. She had once possessed amazing physical abilities, far beyond those of an ordinary child, but now, after being reborn into a new life, she found herself struggling once more. Her limbs felt heavier, and her strength had waned. It was as if the slate had been wiped clean, and she had to start from scratch.

Yet, as she paused to catch her breath and wipe the sweat from her brow, Andromeda had a moment of clarity. Perhaps this fresh start was a blessing in disguise. She had her mother, Duchess Anastasia, by her side to guide her every step of the way, and her father, Duke Eleftherios, who would undoubtedly support her journey. The conflicted emotions in her heart were still simmering but she knew that she still had time until her father's death time.

With renewed determination, Andromeda pushed herself to her limits during her meditation and training, channeling her frustration into her movements. She knew that the path of elemental mastery was a challenging one, and she was willing to embrace it fully to become the most powerful ever.

After an hour of intense practice, the Duchess sent her daughter away to prepare for a bath. Andromeda relished the soothing embrace of the warm water, allowing it to wash away the physical and mental strains of her training.

Once refreshed and dressed, Andromeda made her way to the library. It was there that she intended to begin her search for the elusive Tome of Fire, a tome rumored to hold the secrets of mastering fire elemental magic. She knew that the tome was in here somewhere but the flame sprites would always change its position.

As she delved into the tomes and scrolls, her concentration was suddenly shattered by strange, ominous whispers that seemed to emanate from the very walls of the library. The whispers echoed in her mind, making her eyes go blank as her soul was summoned by a powerful presence.

It was the Flame Deity, an entity of immense power and ancient wisdom. Andromeda's spirit was drawn into the fiery abyss of the deity's realm, where a blazing figure awaited her.

The Flame Deity's voice resonated within her mind, stern and demanding. "Andromeda Ruelle Bethel," it spoke, its words like crackling flames. "You must break your bond with the Black Magic Deity."

Andromeda was taken aback by the deity's request, her anger rising within her like a roaring inferno. She couldn't believe that the Flame Deity would be so selfish, demanding her loyalty while disregarding what she had done to her in the past. Her voice, laced with frustration, rippled through the fiery realm as she replied, "Why should I break my bond? What do you offer in return, Flame Deity?"

Keahi, the Flame Deity, regarded Andromeda with eyes like burning embers, her ethereal form bathed in an infernal light. Andromeda's question hung in the air, a challenge to the ancient deity's intentions.

"Why did you never reach out to me before?" Andromeda demanded, her voice tinged with frustration.

Keahi's voice was like the crackling of a roaring bonfire as she replied, "I had a promise to uphold, child. A promise not to interfere in the affairs of mortals unless absolutely necessary. I trusted that you would find your own path and that your abilities would lead you to the truth."

Andromeda's laughter echoed through the fiery realm, a bitter, almost insane sound. "Trust? You trusted me to solve it all by myself? After everything, you left me to fend for myself, struggling in the darkness?"

Keahi's form wavered slightly, and her expression turned fickle, almost pretentious. "Fate is a fickle thing, Andromeda. It did not unfold as I had envisioned. In your past life, I had intended for Delphine to be the Saintess, to carry the burden of my power. But fate had different plans, and you emerged as the chosen one."

Andromeda's eyes blazed with a mixture of hollow despair and resentment. She couldn't help but question the deity's capriciousness. "So, because things didn't go as you planned, you abandoned your own true Saintess? You turned your back on me and left me to suffer, all because you were brooding over fate's decisions? You let her do everything she wanted and go against the laws of nature, just because you liked her?"

Keahi's presence flickered, as if struggling to maintain its composure. She was indeed a fickle deity, one whose actions were driven by her own desires and grievances, even when it meant forsaking her own chosen one.

Keahi remained unyielding, her fiery form pulsating with an air of arrogance. She responded to Andromeda's demands with stubborn determination, refusing to send her back from the fiery realm.

"Why did you want Delphine?" Andromeda pressed, her voice filled with bitterness. "Why did you prefer her over me?"

The Flame Deity's reply was immediate, her tone indifferent. "Because Delphine bore a striking resemblance to Peitho, my grandchild. Her appearance reminded me of a time long past."

Andromeda couldn't help but emit a bitter, humorless chuckle. "So, you chose Delphine over me simply because she looked like someone you once cared about? You let her do as she pleased, even when she violated the laws of nature, just because she resembled your own kin?"

Keahi's form flickered in response to Andromeda's accusations, but her stubbornness remained unshaken. She gazed at Andromeda with an air of detachment, as if the mortal's grievances held no weight.

Andromeda's eyes blazed with fury, her voice filled with resolve. "I will never forgive you for what you've done, Flame Deity. You abandoned me when I needed you most, and you favored another simply for a superficial resemblance. One day, I will make sure you regret ever betraying me."

Despite her anger and determination, Andromeda couldn't help but feel a deep sense of loss and betrayal. She knew that her path was now irrevocably changed, and her relationship with the Flame Deity had forever soured. With a final, seething glare at Keahi, Andromeda vowed to herself that she would find her own way, even if it meant defying the whims of the gods themselves.

Keahi, the Flame Deity, regarded Andromeda with a perplexed expression, her fiery form wavering slightly as she struggled to understand the depth of the mortal's anger and resentment.

"Why are you so upset, child?" Keahi inquired, her voice carrying the warmth of embers. "Is it not enough that we are here now, in this moment? Delphine was favored in her time, but that was then, and you are now the one I favor. The past should hold no power over you."

Andromeda's frustration grew as she perceived Keahi's lack of comprehension. In her mind, the Flame Deity had betrayed her, leaving her to navigate a treacherous path alone, and yet Keahi seemed to view it as a trivial matter.

"Delphine may have been favored in her time, but that favoritism cost me dearly," Andromeda retorted, her voice tinged with bitterness. "I was abandoned and left to suffer while she was allowed to wield your power recklessly. You may have grown fond of me now, but that doesn't erase the past. It doesn't undo the pain and suffering I endured."

Keahi's ethereal form flickered once more, her expression a mix of confusion and indifference. "Humans come and go, child. Mortal lives are fleeting, and their struggles, in the grand scheme of things, may seem insignificant."

Andromeda, her frustration reaching its peak, shook her head in disbelief. "You don't understand, Keahi. For me, it was not insignificant. It was a betrayal, a violation of trust. I will never forget what you did, and I will never forgive you."

As Andromeda's words hung in the fiery realm, it became evident that the divide between mortal and deity was too vast to bridge. Keahi, fickle and ancient, simply couldn't comprehend the depths of human emotions and the scars they left behind.
