Genevieve slowly opened her eyes. She felt as if she had just woken up from a bad dream. She remembered being in the forest, with Quer, Draven, and Moland. She recalled being attacked by a giant black-furred bear with red eyes. She remembered trying to fend it off with her sword, but she was too late. She remembered feeling an immense pain in her chest before she blacked out.
"Where am I?" she murmured.
She looked around, taking in her surroundings. She found herself in a clean and tidy white room. Next to her bed, there was a small table with a few flowers and greeting cards. On the wall, there was a clock and a large painting. In front of her bed, there was a door with a glass window.
She tried to sit up in bed, but she felt something holding her arm. She glanced down and saw a needle sticking out of her arm, connected to a tube leading to a bottle of liquid.
"Am I in a hospital?" she wondered aloud.
She attempted to remove the needle, but she felt a sharp pain in her arm.
"Don't!" a voice came from outside the door.
The door opened, and a man in a white coat entered the room. He was wearing glasses and carrying a clipboard.
"Good morning, Miss Genevieve. I'm the doctor who's been taking care of you. My name is Dr. Lee," he said kindly.
"Dr. Lee? What happened to me? Why am I here?" Genevieve asked, confused.
Dr. Lee placed his clipboard on the table and sat in a chair next to Genevieve's bed.
"You suffered severe injuries from being attacked by a wild animal in the forest. You lost a lot of blood and came close to death. Fortunately, someone found you and brought you here just in time," Dr. Lee explained.
"A wild animal? Was it that mutated bear?" Genevieve asked.
Dr. Lee nodded.
"Yes, that's correct. It's one of the mutant species that emerged due to the contaminated radiation. They're extremely fierce and powerful. You're lucky to be alive after encountering them," he said.
Genevieve recalled the horrifying events. She felt both scared and relieved.
"What about my friends? Are they alright?" Genevieve asked.
Dr. Lee smiled.
"Don't worry, they're safe too. They're out there, waiting for you to wake up," he reassured her.
Genevieve felt relieved to hear that.
"Can I see them?" she inquired.
"Of course. But before that, I need to examine your condition first," Dr. Lee said.
He then took a stethoscope from his pocket and placed it on Genevieve's chest, listening carefully to her heartbeat.
"Hmm... this is strange," he mumbled.
"What's strange?" Genevieve asked, curious.
Dr. Lee shook his head.
"There's nothing wrong with your heart. In fact, it's quite the opposite. Your heart is incredibly healthy and strong. But it doesn't make sense," he said.
"Why doesn't it make sense?" Genevieve asked, puzzled.
Dr. Lee pointed to the bear bite scar on Genevieve's chest. The wound had closed up and was no longer bleeding. There was only a thin, pale scar left.
"Do you see this? This is the wound you sustained from the mutated bear attack. It was a deep and wide wound. It should have taken months to heal. But look now, your wound is almost completely healed. It's not normal," he explained.
Genevieve stared at the scar in wonder. She couldn't comprehend how it had healed so quickly.
"How is that possible?" she asked.
Dr. Lee shrugged.
"I don't know either. This is a phenomenon I've never seen before. Perhaps you have a special ability that allows you to heal rapidly," he suggested.
Genevieve remembered her unique ability called 'Extreme Adaptability.' It kept her body in prime condition and allowed her to adapt to any situation. Maybe that was the reason behind her miraculous recovery.
"A special ability?" she inquired.
Dr. Lee nodded.
"Yes, a special ability. You know, there are some individuals who possess unique abilities that others don't have. These abilities could be enhanced physical strength, speed, agility, or something else entirely. They're referred to as 'Specials.' Are you one of them?" Dr. Lee asked.
Genevieve shook her head.
"No, I know nothing about special abilities. I'm just an ordinary girl," she replied.
Dr. Lee seemed uncertain.
"Are you sure? Well, then this is an unsolved mystery," he said.
He then wrote something on his clipboard.
"Alright, I'll perform some more tests to ensure your condition. In the meantime, you should rest. I'll be back shortly," he said.
He stood up from his chair and walked toward the door.
"Oh, one more thing. Don't tell anyone about your healed wound. This is our secret. If others find out, they might consider you a threat or an experiment," he advised.
Genevieve nodded in understanding.
"Okay, I understand. Thank you for your care, Dr. Lee," she said.
Dr. Lee smiled and raised his hand.
"You're welcome, Miss Genevieve. Goodbye for now," he said.
He then exited the room, closing the door behind him.
Genevieve took a deep breath and reflected on what had just happened. She felt puzzled and amazed by her miraculous healing. She also felt guilty for lying to Dr. Lee about her unique ability. But she had no other choice. She didn't want to become a target for those who might exploit her abilities.
She then looked at the flowers and greeting cards on the small table. She picked up one of the cards and opened it. Inside, it read:
"Young Lady Genevieve,
We're relieved to hear that you're awake and well. We apologize for any trouble we caused you. We hope you can forgive us and continue to be friends with us. We'll be waiting for you in the hospital lobby. Until we meet again!
Signatures,
Quer, Draven, Moland, and Remy."
Genevieve smiled as she read the greeting card. She was glad her friends still cared about her and weren't angry with her for getting them into a big mess. She was also curious about Remy, the person mentioned as their savior from the mutated bear.
