Chapter 6 - Nervous

In a few hours of travelling, Genevieve saw many things, such as lakes, villages, long rivers, big bridges, and fountains. It mesmerised her.

In fact, this was the first trip Genevieve had ever taken, she had never been out of her palace before.

On the way, Genevieve travelled to a magic test site and a test of unique abilities in an ancient and eccentric horse-drawn carriage guarded by huge metal-clad soldiers sent by her father.

After waiting several hours in the carriage, Genevieve arrived at a large, tall, sturdy building with a large garden. The place was heavily guarded by guards. After arriving at the gate, Genevieve's carriage had to be inspected.

"What brings you here?" the guard asked.

"We are here to take the young lady for training," replied the bodyguard who had been escorting Genevieve throughout the journey. He also handed her a badge to prove his identity.

"Hmm...Please come in", the guard let them in and opened the gate.

After all the checks were completed, Genevieve's carriage set off again. Genevieve finally arrived at the place where she would be testing her magic and unique abilities.

'Wow, this place is huge', Genevieve looked at the grand and huge buildings she saw.

The train finally stopped at the entrance. The guards at the entrance were very strict, just like at the gate. Two teenage boys came out from behind the entrance.

"Good afternoon young lady, I am Moland and beside me is Quer. We are both your shadows. Please get off the train and follow us", Moland opened the train door, then helped Genevieve off the train.

Genevieve was told to enter the building. She got off the train, and then her Shadows led her to the examination room for magic and unique abilities.

"How was your journey Miss Genevieve?", asked the quer, who looked like a cheerful person.

"My journey was without a hitch," replied Genevieve.

"Thank goodness", said Quer with a big smile on her mouth.

Quer seemed grateful for Genevieve's smooth journey. On the way to the test room, Genevieve was constantly flooded with questions from Quer.

"Alright young lady, we have arrived at the test room", said the moland who had been silent all this time.

'Wow, this is the test room, it's huge', Genevieve looked around, hiding her amazement. The magic examination room was huge, and there were many researchers in the room.

"Please enter the room young lady" said Quer.

Upon hearing Quer's words, Genevieve woke up from her reverie. Then Genevieve asked, "won't you come in with me?".

"We can only escort young lady Genevieve up to here" said Moland.

"As Moland said, we can only take you up to here young lady. We will meet again after your test is complete, please go to the test room immediately young lady". Quer said in a coaxing tone.

"Suit yourself then", Genevieve walked into the test room.

Genevieve entered a white room whose walls were covered in spells that she did not know. In the centre of the room, there was a relic shaped like a book that had crystals floating in the air.

"You have finally arrived young lady, I am Edward, please come here immediately to do the test."

Edward said.

"Ok" said Genevieve.

She followed Edward from behind, towards the relic.

"Ok, young lady. First I will briefly explain about this relic. The purpose of this relic is to check each of your talents and abilities-"

The old researcher, whose name was Edward. Gave an explanation of the relic that would be used to find out all of Genevieve's abilities.

"-In essence, it will tell you your full stats young lady, and the crystals around the spur to awaken your unique abilities"

Edward's entire explanation was boring and long. He made Genevieve sleepy, Edward was like a grandfather recounting his life experiences to his granddaughter.

"OK, so the crystals are a means of fuelling my unique abilities?" Genevieve asked.

"Yes" Edward immediately nodded his head.

"So the unique ability doesn't come out on its own?" Genevieve's eyes stared with obvious curiosity.

"Of course not miss" Edward replied.

Edward's face looked stiff and showed strong disapproval.

"Ok" was the only word that came out of Genevieve's mouth.

"Fine, I will continue. So young lady will open this book when I and the other researchers leave this room" Edward said.

Edward told Genevieve to open the book after they all left the room.

"Why do you have to leave the room?" Genevieve showed an inquisitive face.

"Oh, it's just to ensure the accuracy of the test results and to keep all the energy in the crystal focused on you, miss" Edward replied.

'Hmm, are the crystals like an X-ray, MRI, or CT' Genevieve wondered in her mind.

Genevieve thought that the crystals were like the medical equipment she used before she reincarnated, such as pacemakers, X-rays, and others.

"So young lady. We will leave this room, after that please open the relic young lady" Edward said.

Edward and the researchers then exited the white room and locked it, leaving Genevieve alone inside.

Not long after the researchers left, Genevieve stepped forward to the relic book and hesitantly and fearfully opened it.

'This is where I am right now, I wish I had a unique ability' Genevieve wished to herself.

Genevieve was so worried that she wouldn't get a unique ability, she was afraid of not being considered worthy by her father and disappointing her mother.

Then, Genevieve opened the book. The room instantly became very different. There were stars and planets in the room, as if Genevieve had been teleported into outer space.

She then saw the book floating in front of her, she picked it up. Inside the book was Genevieve's name, age, and unique ability.

[Name: Roro Dirghayu/Genevieve Abelard]

Genevieve's past name was Roro Dirghayu, a name she had long forgotten, the name before she was reincarnated.

"It feels like the memories of the past come back when I see my old name" Genevieve's face was filled with a nostalgic expression.

Next to her past name is her current name (after reincarnation), Genevieve Abelard.

[Age: 8 years]

Then below the name is Genevieve's age, which reads 8 years old.

[Magic: B]

Underneath Genevieve's age, it says how much magic she has. It was also indicated by the changing colour of the crystal around the book relic. The value is B, which means that Genevieve is considered to have a lot of magic at her current age.

[Unique abilities: Extreme adaptability, Alchemical wisdom]

Then below the magic writing, there was a writing that said her unique ability.

Genevieve was a little nervous when she read the unique ability part, because it said that Genevieve had two unique abilities, Extreme adaptability and Alchemical wisdom.

'Yeay!', Genevieve shouted with excitement.

She was happy that she had unique abilities, because it meant that her father would consider her important, and she would not be alienated from the family.

But in the midst of her excitement, Genevieve was also scared, because she was told she had two unique abilities instead of one. Her mother had told her that one could only have one unique ability.

After the examination was over, the door to the room suddenly opened. The researchers rushed into the examination room.

"Miss, may I ask what your unique power is?... there's no need to worry if you don't have a unique ability." Asked Edward

"Can't you see it?" she asked.

Genevieve showed Edward the relic book she was holding.

"We can indeed see your total magic from the discolouration of the crystals floating around the relic book, but we can't see what's inside." Edward replied.

Edward explained that when one uses the relic, others will not be able to see its contents.

"So, what is your unique ability, young lady?" Edward asked again.

"My unique ability is Alchemical wisdom" Genevieve replied.

Genevieve only revealed one ability, because she was not foolish enough to reveal all her unique abilities, she wanted to make Extreme adaptability a secret known only to herself.

"Can you explain in detail about the Alchemical wisdom ability as written in the relic book young lady?", Edward asked about the use of Alchemical wisdom possessed by Genevieve.

"Just a moment, let me first read the explanation contained in the relic of this book"

Then Genevieve reviewed the text written in the book, she looked under the word medical memory.

[Extreme adaptability]

- Increases the owner's lifespan

- The body will instantly adapt to any situation

- Allows the owner to survive extreme environmental conditions.

- Makes the owner's body always in primary condition

[Alchemical wisdom]

- Understand the principles of alchemy

- Increase the chance of success in experiments

- Transmutation of matter

- Use of Potions and Elixirs

After Genevieve read the description of the medical memory ability, she shared it with the researchers.

"My ability is to meticulously produce poison, potions, and elixirs," Genevieve told the researchers only what was necessary.

"Thank you young lady, we have the information we need. Please exit through the same door you entered, you will be escorted to your resting place by the two men who brought you here", Edward said.

"Alright, I'll be going", Genevieve said with a sweet smile.

Then Genevieve walked out of the test room. Outside the test room, Moland and Quer were waiting for Genevieve.

After quer saw Genevieve leave the room, quer spontaneously approached Genevieve and asked her questions about the test results.

"Young lady, how was your test result?...do you have any extraordinary unique abilities?" his eyes gazed with intense curiosity.

"Shut up quer, don't bother young lady", Moland smacked Quer on the head.

Moland who was behind Quer, after hearing Quer's question, immediately stopped her.

Moland felt that quer's question was a matter of sensitivity.

"It's okay Moland, I don't blame quer for being curious" Genevieve's face was expressionless, but looked peaceful and relaxed.

"Also after the test, I did intend to tell you two about my unique ability. I actually gained a unique ability: Alchemical wisdom", Genevieve said while watching the two faces of her reflection.

"That means young lady has a unique ability that focuses on alchemy, huh?", Quer who seemed to understand Genevieve's unique ability immediately made his own statement.

"Yes..., perhaps. After all, I also have a talent for magic, so even though I have Alchemical wisdom it doesn't mean that my profession will only be alchemy". Genevieve replied.

"Wow, that means young lady can also be a magician", said quer.

"Yes, it does. Now, where are we going?", Genevieve asked her two shadows.

"Miss, we will take you to your resting room", replied Moland.

"Alright, lead the way", Genevieve said.

Genevieve then told her two shadows to lead her to her resting place.

"Yes young lady".

Genevieve and her two shadows walked through the hallways of the Institute of Magical Research. They walked quickly, as Genevieve wanted to get to her resting place as soon as possible. She was already very tired from the tests.

Finally, they reached a spacious room. The room was beautifully decorated, and had a private bathroom.

The room contained a bed, a table, a chair, and there was also a bathtub located in the bathroom. There was also a window overlooking the garden.

"This is your resting place," Moland said. "Enjoy" his face opened with a friendly expression.

Genevieve smiled. "Thank you," she said. "Oh right, if you're my shadow, then you'll also be accompanying me during descent training, right?"

"That's right young lady, from now on we will always be there for you, we are your accomplices, we are your shadows" Moland replied.

"As moland said young lady Genevieve, from now on we will always be with you", quer smiled at Genevieve.

"Umm....fine. See you tomorrow my shadow", Genevieve closed the door, took off her clothes and headed to the bathroom.

Genevieve was so tired, she hadn't even showered since arriving here. Her body was smelly and sticky. Genevieve couldn't stand her own smell and wanted to take a quick shower.

"Ah... how nice," her face looked relaxed and calm as if she had come home after a long day.

Genevieve drowned herself in the bathtub, feeling very comfortable as the water washed over her.

Genevieve bathed very quickly. She was very tired and couldn't wait to sleep. After finishing her bath, she put on her nightgown and lay down on the bed. She closed her eyes and tried to sleep, but she could not. She kept thinking about the descent training she would do tomorrow.

She knew that the training would be very strenuous, but she also knew that it was her chance to prove herself to her father. She wanted to show him that she was capable of carrying on the family name.

Genevieve opened her eyes and looked up at the ceiling of her room. She thought about her mother. She missed her mother terribly, but she knew that her mother would be proud of her because her daughter had such a unique ability. She prayed for her mother's health. She closed her eyes and soon fell asleep. That night, she had the most beautiful dream of her entire life.
