In ancient times, when several races were born, they knew not of any of the other's existence. Not until they had all grown and evolved into their own civilisations.
When the two primary civilisations, humans and demons, met, they were wary of each other, both prepared to fight, if necessary, but after some time interacting, they came to the conclusion that neither side had any malice, so they began trading recourses, such as food and material.
Ultimately, due to the differences between the way that the humans and demons had evolved and created their societies, conflict arose, and the two races went to war. They fought and fought and fought, and eventually, the other races could no longer stay away from this ever-growing conflict, so they chose sides.
The more light natured races such as Faries and Elves chose to side with the humans, meanwhile the Dwarves and Goblins chose to side with the demons. With the bigger races choosing sides, the rest of the lesser races soon followed suit.
One hundred years after the war began, two figures rose up in both the human and demon forces, and became the spearheads of their own race.
The humans had what is now known as "The Star Hero" but back then was just called "The Hero" who battled against countless legions of demons alone with their own strength and power over the stars.
The demons had something else, they obtained the one that would now be called, "The Demon Emperor" but was known back then by the name of "The Devil" who was known for his absolute merciless ferocity and thirst for bloodshed.
The war raged on for another twenty years before both, "The Devil" and "The hero" one day mysteriously vanished, for seemingly now reason, never to be seen nor heard from again.
Both sides called for a temporary truce to look for their missing figureheads, only for their searches to come up empty.
Fortunately for the demons, "The Devil" had left them an inheritance in his palace, in which whomever could beat all the trials in the inheritance would take on his legacy, and become his successor.
Eventually, someone completed all the trials of The Devil's inheritance and became his successor. Not wanting to take his predecessors title, this inheritor took the title of "Devil's Advocate" and created a system that would pass down the legacy of The Devil to the next demon worthy of taking the title.
Once The Devil's Advocate got a hold of his new powers, he immediately restarted the war, in an attempt to crush the humans in one fell swoop.
Unfortunately for the demons, just as they started their campaign, a new hero arose to take the place of the old one and heralded the human armies to fight back against the invasion.
The two civilisations then continued to battle in a never-ending conflict, eventually developing into their own nations as their civilisations developed and evolved faster than ever before.
The demons were united under the one they would soon call their Emperor, who ruled over them all, with several kingdoms and races under his control.
The humans developed slightly differently. Due to their nature, they could never achieve the same thing with constant infighting, and only in recent generations did they manage to properly unite under the banner of an empire.

Millennia have pass and the two nations are still at war, with the Demon Emperor being the latest title for the ruler of the demons and the hero of the humans, now titled as "The Star Hero" after the name of the first hero, "Starin Helios" a person with a heart of gold, something which is carried out by his own successors.
Half a century ago the previous Star Hero and Demon Emperor fought one another in an epic final battle of their age, killing each other and starting the cycle anew, as the Demon Emperor's nephew becomes the new Demon Emperor.
As for the new Star Hero, those take time to manifest, and usually only do so when danger arrives at their doorstep, which is always fated to happen, for it is their destiny to be the Hero.

Despite taking on the role of "The Demon Emperor" every successor needs time to either get used to, or manifest their new powers. This can take anywhere between a few years to several decades.
The latest Demon Emperor took half a century to get a hold of his newfound powers, and when he did, he immediately started another long and arduous campaign against the human race.

For around a decade, he ravaged the human territories at the edge of his empire, this of course, caused the humans to retaliate and do the same.
When the Demon Emperor learned of this, he was obviously infuriated, but he knew this would happen. It always does.
He sent forces to annihilate the invaders. He then took it upon himself to look for survivors in some of the first villages to be attacked.

He searched many, finding nothing but rubble, blood, flesh and bones strewn across each village he went to. He knew this was the kind of thing that would happen when he attacked first, but he still didn't like it, he was an Emperor after all, he should be protecting his people, not endangering them.
He remembered the stories his uncle had told him when he was younger, about when the world was young and there was no war or bloodshed. Just all the races living in the world together, blissfully unaware of each other or what was to come.
The new Demon Emperor wanted to recreate that image that was imprinted into his mind but he knew he had to eliminate all of humanity to do so.
As he reached the last village on his journey, and the first village that was destroyed in the human's counterattack, he actually felt traces of someone still alive, here, in this desolate ruined village.
He quickly used his power to scan the village and find whomever it was that was staying here. He quickly located them and went right to their location, which was the ruins of a barely lifted roof which sat atop the remains of the walls that originally supported it.
Crying could be heard from underneath as the Demon Emperor crouched down to look underneath and into the darkness, which was something he could see through, and saw a little girl crying, balling herself up, presumably to keep herself warm.
"Child." The Emperor called out.
The young girl stopped crying and froze in fear at the voice that called out to her. She looked towards where the voice came from and saw something that scared her, for she had never seen something so terrifying before.
She quickly scurried away, deeper inside of the fallen building to get away from what she saw as a monster.
"No!" The Emperor cried out, not expecting her to run away and also because he knew that this building wouldn't be able to stand as it was for much longer and would soon fall down and crush the girl.
Using his magic, the Demon Emperor easily lifted the ruins of the former home into the air and tossed it aside. He quickly spotted the girl looking up in awe, knowing what just happened as she had never seen magic before, and it stupefied her.
"Child." The Emperor called out again.
The little girl flinched and started shivering, looking at the tall Demonic Emperor in terror. Not knowing what to do or how to help this frightened soul, the Emperor just stands there, contemplating, asking himself why she would be scared. He eventually comes to some conclusions and decides to try them out.
He crouches down and sees that the girls condition was a tad better than before, which meant he was going in the right direction.
"Don't be afraid, little one." He calls out with a softer tone and face. The girl starts to stop hyperventilating.
"I mean you no harm, I just want to help." He says, ushering for the girl to come forward.
Still trembling the girl looks around her, trying to see if anyone else is nearby. Seeing that it was only her and the strange man before her, she calms down but is still scared and shaken.
Taking a deep breath, the Emperor sits down in a cross legged manner and beckons her to come to him again. "Come, I'm sure you're hungry, I can feed you, I can help you, I can... I WILL protect you." He says, that last part said with an extreme conviction that came from his very existence.
Hearing the words of the strange man, although she didn't quite understand them, she instinctively knew what he was conveying to her.
She got up and slowly walked towards him, and unknowingly began to cry with each step she took. The toll of losing her parent, her friends, and everyone she ever knew, right before her eyes as her parents locked her away to keep her safe, before she heard the screams of her parents ring out.
Soon she started running to the man before her, who only seemed to want the best for her, until she jumped into his embrace, crying like waterworks, releasing all the emotions she had sealed inside of her until now, all of it flooding open like a broken dam.
Hugging the girl to help console her, the Demon Emperor decided to take this girl in as his own, to uphold his word of protecting her.
