Su Shen yearned to pull her into his arms, to kiss her deeply. He knew, however, that once they started, their intimacy would spiral out of control.

Gu Zi was scorched by his gaze. She turned away, pulling at the blanket and pretending to tidy it up. She was flustered, but her tone was firm, "I didn't do anything. It's your lack of self-control, not my fault."
Su Shen didn't respond. He climbed into bed, pulling her into his arms, blanket and all. As she tried to turn away, his arm tightened slightly. One hand rested on her waist as he whispered into her ear, "I would never blame you. Sleep well, goodnight, my darling Gu Zi."
