When I open my eyes again, everything is blurry. I blink for a few times, until finally, everything comes into focus. I am lying on my side and prison bars are in front of me. I am in a dimly lit room, my head is throbbing and I feel disoriented.
As I try to sit up, a sharp pain shoots through my body and I realize that I am injured again.
"Easy now, don't move too much," a voice says from outside the prison.
I turn my head to the sound and see a soldier sitting in a chair outside.
"What happened?" I ask groggily, trying to piece together the previous events. Right, I was being attacked by these same soldiers.
"We tried to kill you, but we failed," the soldier explains, his expression passive. "You were lying underneath the carcass of a monster."
"Who are you?" I demand, glaring at him.
The soldier sighs and rubs his face tiredly before meeting my gaze. "I am Captain Asher Davis of the Northern border gates," he introduces himself.
