"We need to go faster!" Tiana stresses. "They're gaining on us!"
Calais nods and urges the horse to go even faster. The wind rushes past us as we race through the countryside.
"Do you think we can outrun them?" I ask anxiously.
"We have a good head start," Calais says confidently. "But we need to keep going until we reach a safe place."
I purse my lips. If only I can use my magic, there is no need to run away from these pursuers. It was only yesterday when we escaped from the inn. We were able to rest last night, but even before the sun rises, another group of men are running after us with only one purpose — to kill me.
So, we continue to speed down the road. The attackers are chasing after us on their horses. I can hear the shouts and yells behind us, their weapons glinting in the sunlight.
Then we approach a narrow bridge across a river. On one side stands towering cliffs while on the other is open land — perfect for an ambush.
