"Lyrica..." he calls my name again. "Promise me that you will return with me here."
"Yes, we will return," I lie as I bury my face against his chest.
This will be the last time that we will be in his bed together. If I don't find a way back to my world soon, it will be Cornelius' bed that I will need to share. Should I escape en route to the palace instead?
"Stop saying that as if we will separate and this is the end." He lifts my head and gazes into my eyes. "If they don't allow us to marry, we will escape the palace again."
I nod, not finding the energy to listen to his empty promises anymore. Besides, if he really means it, he will choose to escape with me.
"I promise I will marry you, Lyrica," he says and places a kiss on my mouth.
However, it is not as heart-warming as before. Rather, his kisses are more heart-wrenching to me.
