The estate is larger than I anticipated. It takes me days to map out every inch of it and search for weak spots in the magical barriers that Calais has set up to keep me trapped within this prison.
And as I work on my plan to escape with Tiana, Calais attempts to lull me into a false sense of security using his charming facade that had seduced and deluded me before. He joins me on my walks around the estate. He talks about our plan to visit the village, disguised.
"Have you been feeling better?" he asks, holding my hand as we walk along the gardens.
I force a smile and nod, trying not to flinch at his touch. "Yes, much better."
He leans in closer, his shoulders brushing mine. "I'm glad," he says softly.
I look around the barrier where he's imprisoning me. It has a self-repair ability, which is the exact function that I will be exploiting. Calais won't even realize it until it's too late.
