When I wake up again, I am lying in a bed inside the safehouse. My whole body is wracked with pain and it takes a moment for me to remember what had happened.
I turn my head slowly and see an old woman sitting in a chair next to my bed. Her face is lined with wrinkles, but her eyes are full of wisdom. She smiles at me, her voice soft as she speaks.
"Welcome back, my Lady," she says, definitely pretending NOT to hate me.
I try to sit up, but a sharp pain shoots through my body and I collapse back onto the bed. The memories of what happened come rushing back to me and I fear the worst.
"My child..." I whisper, my voice trembling. I can't feel my child in my belly anymore. That feeling of heaviness is no more and a wave of grief washes over me.
The old woman's expression turns solemn, and she stands up. "I… I will call General Parcell."
