The minutes tick by with excruciating slowness. Each tick of the antique clock on the wall echoes throughout the room like a war drum, reminding me of what lays ahead — an escape, for my freedom.

As Cornelius tightens his grip around me in his slumber, I softly extract myself from his hold. As I abandon the warmth of his arms and the comfortable plush of his bed, I slide my feet into my footwear and tiptoe to the door. I glance back at Cornelius. Despite all the agony he put me through, the body I am inhabiting, the old Lyrica really wanted him. But this time, I will be selfish. Lyrica is long gone. She is now just a memory and I need to live my own life.

With one last look at him, I step out into the dimly lit corridors. The castle is silent except for the occasional whispers of wind sneaking in through any crevice. I shiver and pull my cloak tighter around me, walking briskly towards the rendezvous with Gavin.
