Cornelius and I walk through the lush gardens. His grip on my hand tightens. I can tell he's agitated about something, but I don't press him. Instead, I take in the beauty around us, seeking solace in nature.
However, when we turn the corner and stroll down a path with less vegetation, I pause.
"This is not the way to the gardens," I comment as Cornelius and I walk along the dimly lit hall.
Cornelius glances at me. "You requested to see Count Parcell, so I am bringing you to him."
I frown. "You are really allowing me?"
He taps my hand that is interlaced on his arm. "Yes, but as I said, this will stop once you've become officially my queen."
In the other turn of the corner, he suddenly pulls me and places his hand over my mouth.
"Shhh…" he says.
