My smile immediately fell from my face as I picked up the pace and swam as fast as I could back to where I hatched, the only place I knew that might have enough shelter to save me from this demon! Why is it so strong! What the heck! As I caught my breath where I hatched I started looking around me realising there was other eggs here too! 'How could I have just left them? The lil fellas would've been eaten up at once if I left them to fend for themselves…but why should I have to take care of them..? Our mother is bound to be near us right?'
As I scanned the area frantically my eyes finally landed on her corpse, our mother had died giving birth it seems, this saddened me for some reason, maybe it was just instinct, 'after all mayflies are doomed to die quickly anyways so why grieve over them…anyways…that trout has gone I believe thanks mother for laying us in a discreet place!'
I slowly looked around for any food I could find near me unfortunately I could only find plants, being primarily a meat eater in my last life I was a bit iffy on this, 'it's not like I'm a picky eater but there's definitely some better food out there…' I reluctantly ate the underwater vegetation but to my surprise it was delicious!
