Chereads / Heroes, villains and Jim / Chapter 6 - Failure

Chapter 6 - Failure

Jim opened his eyes. His head aching. The whole world seemed to spin. He tried to lift his head but it wouldn't move. Jim's eyes finally adjusted.

'I've got to stop waking up like this.'

Jim looked up to see a white ceiling with bright lights. He tried to move his body. Arms? Legs? Head? Fingers? Nothing moved.

'Am I crippled? I can't move anything. Well, That's the least I deserve after killing her..'

"You're finally awake. So tell me, does it pay to be a villain?"

Jim was startled by the sudden voice that echoed in the room.

"H-hello? I can't move, am I crippled?"

'Well, at least I can talk.'

"Crippled? No, you're not. But you have broken every bone in your body, and you're now in prison."

'That's to be expected.'

"So am I in the prison's hospital?"

"Yes, you are. My name is Lisa Flas, you are Jim Glen."

"Yeah, Sorry for not being able to greet you properly. As you can see I'm currently unable to move."

"Well that's what happens to villains, you chose the wrong career path kid."

"If I had a ch-"

"AHHHHHHH!"

-Huff* huff*

'shit, I can't even say that?! This is so fucking stupid.'

"Hey! Are you OK?!"

"Yeah, starting to get used to it... So are you the nurse here or something?"

"Doctor. I have a Ph.D. and everything but nowadays all that matters is if you have powers to heal, Just so happens that I don't. Because of me not having powers the best I could do was become a prison doctor."

"That sucks... On another topic how long is my sentence?"

"Life sentence; but if you behave yourself for 25 ish years, the judge might decide you're fit to be released with parole."

'Do I seriously have to stay in here for 25 years at the least? I'll be 42 by then. Shit I didn't even want to be a villain!'

"You better behave yourself. Or else you will never get out."

'I should just do my time. I don't want to deal with those villains again. I can't even sell them information for a reduced sentence.'

"How long will it take for me to be fully healed?"

"At least 4 months for everything to heal but more likely around 6 months."

"Thanks. I truly am sorry for killing that receptionist. If only…"

'If I could speak about this power that controls me, I could be in a much better situation.'

"Well, I'll see you if I'm needed, don't get in trouble. Not like you could."

Two months later. Jim could finally sit up. The room was now visible to him. On his bedside was a small red button with emergency written on it. The room was mainly empty, with a counter on the right with a sink on it.

The door of the room opens.

-creeaak!..

A woman who seems to be in her mid-40s walks into the room. She is a brunette with sparkling green eyes. She is wearing a scrub with a red spider symbol from Jim's favourite fictional hero.

'Ha.. I'm sure Spider-Man would be disappointed in me. I wish I was like him..'

"Hello Dr. flas, How are you?"

"I'm fine thanks for asking. How are your legs? They were damaged the most. Can you move them?"

"I can't, not yet. I can barely move my arms and my entire body is in pain. How much longer do you think I'll take to heal?"

"Still the same as I said before, it's probably going to take 3 more months."

Jim sighed at Dr. Flas's answer and frowned.

"This is absolute bullshit! I didn't even mean for this to happen, I can't even say anything."

"Why not? We have been asking you since you woke up. Why won't you help us? You don't seem like a bad kid."

"I'm not, I just can't tell you."

'I've accepted it at this point. I will never be able to live normally… But isn't that exactly what I wanted? To live an extraordinary life? But there is nothing extraordinary about being locked in a cell. In that case, I need to get out, then I'll get back at them. I won't be a proper hero but, I can at least try to help others. Even if I am a criminal, doesn't mean I am a bad person. Well, I did kill somebody, but that doesn't count!'

Jim now had a goal, to escape and become a hero, a vigilante, a man of justice! But he has a big problem… How? How was he going to escape and even then how was he going to be a hero?

'Well I need to start somewhere, so I'll start to think of a plan while I heal. But since I can't get out of this room most of my information gathering will have to occur after I'm healthy. I need to do something to improve my situation. Tv? Games? It's a good way to pass the time, but I have been doing that my whole life. I need to change myself, I need to become more disciplined. I should learn.'

"Hello... Hello! HELLO?!? Well, no one is hearing me."

After no one responded to Jim's yelling he pressed the button on his side.

-creak!

A young woman around the age of 20 opened the door. She looks at Jim with annoyed eyes, they look like bright rubies. Her hair is a dark red with hints of orange and yellow. She has flawless tanned skin. Wearing a blue hoodie she looks out of place as a nurse.

"What do you need?

"Good morning to you too Samantha."

"Yeah, yeah."

"Can you please get me some books about electronics and engineering?"

"Whatever, But if you call me for another stupid reason like bringing you books I will throw those books at your damn head!"

"Thank you, Samantha."

'She looks amazing as always, I don't understand why she wears that blue hoodie. It doesn't fit her fiery character, let alone her red hair and eyes.'

'I hate being unable to move. Just a couple more months until I start my plan to escape. I hope I don't fail…'
