Chapter 1 - Souls

In a dark forgotten forest there is a lake. A lake so still it turned black, no living thing can survive within its murky waters. In the middle of the lake stands a lone willow tree. Its branches are a lush vibrant green in contrast to the dark surroundings almost devoid of color. The tree branches sway in the breeze, catching it to keep for itself. Within the willow a lonely old soul is trapped, yearning for the day it can be free again. The old soul is that of a once brave warrior that is now reduced to the hero of an old fable.

The old soul with all its being wishes for freedom and the chance to to fight for his home and country again. The soul wishes to have a family to call home again. The old soul has long since forgotten his name. The grotesque decrepit creatures residing in the forest call him wallow, for he wallows in the willow tree. They speak many cruel things in an attempt to break him as they can only eat broken souls. Bright souls like Wallow's are considered a delicacy by the creatures. It is especially fought over as it improves their power by leaps and bounds.

There is however one thing the creatures are wrong about. Wallow is not wallowing. He is steadfast and stubbornly waiting for his freedom. This is why the creatures have not broken him after all these centuries. Wallow's instincts are telling him that the time for his freedom is close. The freedom will come with strong unyielding love. The love that he has been dreaming about.

In another part of the forest a party of brave humans are camping. The single campfire burning in the middle of the camp is the sole source of warmth and light. It cuts through the darkness keeping the decrepit creatures away. The fresh bright souls are a rare delectable feast attracting all the creatures in the vicinity. All that is between the creatures and the humans is a single campfire. The creatures with their misshapen bodies and sharp claws circle and surround the camp waiting for any opportunity to catch their prey.

Fire is an important weapon in the Black forest. This is the reason why people with the power of fire was assembled to eradicate the decrepit creatures once and for all. In the party is a short stubby man with an abundant black beard. This man is called Thor by his companions. He wields a mighty heavy hammer twice his size. He is able to heat up his hammer hotter than the flames in a forge.

Other two members of the party are a pair of tall and thin twins with long silver hair and pointed ears. Despite being thin their bodies are well developed. The woman wields a bow whose arrows she lights on fire. The man wields a tall staff that helps to render fire to be at his mercy. The twins are called Fey and Fawn respectively.

Then there is Ray, clad in full body heavy armor, wielding both a long sword and a large shield. Ray covers his entire body and weapons in pure white flames while handling the weapons with might and experience.

Last but not least is Leia. A dainty lady that carries herself with grace and poise despite her current surroundings. Her responsibility is to ensure the health of the party as its healer.

All the party members have unparalleled beauty which is a reflection of the the clarity of their souls.

Their mission ways heavily on them as the outcome will determine the fate of the kingdom. A cleansed black forest will provide an abundance of nature's gifts, fertile land for crops to grow and so jobs and food for the people to prosper. It will free the kingdom from the tyranny of the empire.

While resting their weary bodies around the campfire the party find a fresh and pleasant smell of vibrant leaves tickling their noses. In this desolate dark forest such pleasant smells are nonexistent, it is an anomaly that needs to be investigated. It can be a clue on the key to cleansing the forest. Ray stands up faces his comrades and speaks: "You smell is too don't you? Pack up and get ready, we will be moving shortly." Everyone packed swiftly. After they each prepare a flame on their person for protection. Ready to head out Fawn puts the campfire out with a ball af water that formed in midair.

After traveling a long distance while marking where they have been one lone creature finally stands in their way. The creature has two heads with each mouth containing crooked teeth long enough to cover half it's face. They have not yet battled the creatures in favor of investigating and mapping the forest. This one leaves them no other choice. Ray slams the bottom tip of his shield creating a barrier of fire to defend against any other creatures that feel brave enough for a sneak attack.

Caution is necessary when facing un unfamiliar enemy. The forest was left alone and forgotten for centuries. As a result nothing is known about the forest as well as wat it contains within. The only reason the creatures weakness to fire is know is because that is how villages that are close to the forest protect themselves. This information came at the cost of many of their ancestors. There are some precautionary tales passed down of the creatures poison. Not just poison that affects the body but the mind as well. A cardinal rule among the villages is to never let the fire go out and to never open your ears for the creatures. This is the reason why they were given the name mensruptor.

The mansruptor paces back and forth. Each mouth giving is own eerie laugh. Two different voices come from the mouths taunting the party. "You feeble beings dare to step foot into this forest. Do you really believe that you will be able to leave alive? You are nothing but food for me to devour. Just give up and step in to my mouth quietly. Ha ha ha ha."
