I sat cross-legged in an open field watching my mother carefully. Iris said to Kurai that first she will check to see which element he has. Iris had a small crystal-like object in her hands and told Kurai to put his hand on the ball.
The crystal emitted a light blue color as his mother told him that his magic element is ice. Kurai asked his mother what element she had, and she told him that she had flame. Iris then told Kurai to close his eyes and try to feel the natural mana around him.
Kurai closed his eyes and took a deep breath in. Iris then asked if he could feel the magic around him. Kurai answered positively and said yes, and Iris told him that he could open his eyes. Iris told him to imagine his mana into the shape of ball.
Kurai started imagining that his mana took the shape of a ball and a ball appeared Infront of his wooden staff that his mother gave him. His mother then said to try and shoot it into a tree that was it the area. The ball moved towards the tree and disappeared before it could reach the tree.
His mother said that he would have to train more to try and improve his mana. Kurai was disappointed but also intrigued to learn more about magic. His mother told him to try a basic ice spell. His mother, Iris told him to wait outside as she was going for a book about magic to give to Kurai as she did not know any ice spells.
Kurai waited patiently while swinging his legs back and forth waiting for his mother. Iris then came back with a big brown book with a star on the cover, titled the book of magic. Iris gave the book to Kurai and told him to try one of the basic ice spells in the book. Kurai then said one of the basic spells in the book.
"Goddess Khione, please lend me your power, Ice lance."
A circle generated Infront of his staff emitting a light blue glow. There was then a lance of ice that was being formed. He aimed at the tree his mother earlier told him to aim at and fired. The ice lance hit the tree making a small cut on the tree trunk. He had a satisfied look on his face as his ice lance hit the target.
Iris said to him that they were going to have the ability to see mana. Iris told Kurai to focus his mana into his eyes and look at her. Kurai tried the first time, and nothing happened, he tried again, and again until he finally got it and saw his mother was glowing with a red aura around her.
Kurai looked down at his hands and saw a light blue and a dark aura. He asked his mother about the dark aura that was around him and she focused her mana on her eyes and also saw it. Iris told Kurai that it seemed like he had two elements like his sister. Iris said his second element was rare as it was spatial magic.
Kurai had a smile on his face as not only he had two elements but the second one was really rare. Kurai asked his mother about the elements Aiko had. Iris told Kurai that Aiko had wind and water magic. Iris then told Kurai that was enough training for the day. Kurai went inside with his mother and watched her cook dinner as he wanted to know how to cook.
Kurai helped his mother make the food and told his father at the dinner table. His father then told him that if he is going to go to Cross Academy he would have to live on campus and would have to attend for 3 years. Daichi told him that Aiko had 2 years left at Cross Academy so when he's going to be attending, she wouldn't be there.
Kurai didn't have a problem with anything as he wanted to get strong and make friends. His father said that in 3 years you could take the entrance exams as he needs to be 14 to attend the school. Kurai said that he will be training hard in those 3 years. His father smiled and said that he's sure he will.
Another year has passed, and he was still practicing magic with his mother, but now he is training in the forest outside the village. He can now cast magic spells without saying the incantation out loud. He can cast the spells with just saying the name of the spell and don't need to say the incantation.
Kurai's mother was not feeling well that day and Kurai went out into the forest for some healing herbs that grew out west in the forest near a waterfall. Kurai told his father that he was going to the forest for some herbs, his father told him to be safe while he's out in the forest.
Kurai went to the west side of the forest and heard a girl scream out. He got alerted and rushed to where he heard the scream. He saw a girl running from a few bandits. Kurai drew his sword and used the dull part of his sword to knock the bandits out. He then tied them to a tree and ask the girl if she was ok.
The girl said she was ok thanks to him and Kurai said that's good and said that he was in a hurry. Kurai went more to the west until he sees the waterfall. he saw some herbs in some rocks across the waterfall, he then went across the waterfall to pick the herbs for his mother. The leaves of the plant were emitting a white glow.
He picked the herbs and then the leaves stopped glowing. Kurai's head started hurting as he picked the herbs but after he had picked a few he rushed home. Kurai returned home with the herbs and went to the kitchen and started a fire with some water in the pot and dropped the herbs in there.
Kurai went to his mother as she was sweating and was hot. His father told him to get some sleep as it was getting late and that he would take care of her. Kurai went to lay in his bed and wondered what the sudden headache was when he picked up the herbs. Kurai said it was probably nothing and went to sleep. Kurai was in a dark place where he heard a voice saying.
"Kurai."
Kurai jumped up and looked around, but he didn't see anyone.
"Who's there?" he called out.
There was no response.
Kurai started to feel scared.
"Kurai."
He turned around, but he still didn't see anyone.
"Who are you?" he asked.
"I am the former demon lord," replied the voice. "I have been watching you, Kurai. You have a special talent, and I've chosen you as the demon lord candidate.
Kurai was shocked by the voice's revelations.
"What if I don't want to?" Kurai asked.
You don't have a choice I've already chose you.
"What do I need to do?" Kurai asked.
You will understand what you are to do in the future. The time is not yet right.
